 Líneas de investigación

Me dedico a los estudios sistemáticos que consiste de, citotaxonomía, anatomía y morfología de las Cícadas, así como la conservación de las mismas por medio de proyectos con miras hacía su manejo sustentable.  En colaboración con colegas nacionales e internacionales se formó un equipo de trabajo que abarca temas como la genética de poblaciones, sistemática molecular y citotaxonomía molecular.  He tenido larga experiencia en conservación en Jardines Botánicos y en el establecimiento de colecciones vivas y propagación.  Soy miembro fundador del Jardín Botánico Fco. J. Clavijero y actualmente tengo el cargo de Curador de Colecciones Vivas del mismo.  Soy fundador de la Colección Nacional de Cycadas, una colección viva científica documentada y registrada que se inició en el año 1979.  Es una colección única en el país dado que representa todas las especies conocidas de México, así como especímenes del extranjero, y es la colección más importante de su tipo en Latinoamérica.  Sobre esta colección hemos tenido colaboración con investigadores de la UNAM y de instituciones extranjeras.  Soy miembro del Grupo Especialista de cicadáceas para el Species Survival Commission de la  UICN.
