ACTA ZOOLOGICA MEXICANA, nueva serie (new series) is
a scientific publication issued by the Instituto de
Ecología, A. C., every four months, yielding three issues
per volume per year. AZM publishes original scientific
research on terrestrial fauna of the World in the fields of
behavior, ecology, physiology, genetics, morphology,
systematics, and zoogeography. Languages allowed are Spanish,
English, French, and Portuguese. Each submitted manuscript
is peer reviewed by two scientific specialists on the
subject. Final acceptance is responsibility of the journal’s
Editorial Committee. Dates of manuscript receipt and
acceptance determine order of publication.
Manuscripts presented as several small contributions or
serially numbered notes that could be published as one
substantial paper will not be accepted. Based on the
Editorial Committee’s criteria and the referee’s opinions, a
manuscript might be modified for publication as a Scientific
Note (see below). Taxonomic manuscripts must be presented
according to the most recent edition of the International
Code of Zoological Nomenclature. Rejected manuscripts will
not be reconsidered for publication in AZM.
Text, figure captions and table legends must be typed,
double-spaced (11-point Times New Roman in a Microsoft WORD
file, in letter paper format, leaving 3 cm margins on all
sides, and the text justified. Title and chapter subtitles
should be written with capital letters, the text with upper
and lower case letters. Please adjust all artwork to the
smallest reasonably legible size, and avoid using different
types or fonts (except essential italics). Only genus and
species names, journal titles, and book names should be
italicized. Figure captions and tables must be typed in
Times New Roman as well, but type size may be adjusted if
necessary.
SCIENTIFIC PAPERS. Manuscript should not exceed 30
pages including figures and tables, preferably. Text should
include, the TITLE in the original language and in English,
a short running title in the original language, author(s)’
name(s), and institutional address(es) and e-mail(s) of each
author. An ABSTRACT and key words in the original language
is followed by an abstract and key words in English, then
the INTRODUCTION, MATERIALS AND METHODS, RESULTS, DISCUSSION,
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS, and LITERATURE CITED. The ABSTRACT should
have a length proportional to the overall length of the text.
Manuscripts written in English should include a Spanish
summary, and those in French or Portuguese should include an
English summary. References in the text are given as Reyes
(1977) or (Reyes 1977), with two authors as Hernández & Lara
1999), and with three or more authors as Ayala et al. (1987)
or (Ayala et al. 1987). LITERATURE CITED should be ordered
alphabetically by author, as follows. Journal article:

Figures (maps, graphics, schematics, and photographs) should
each be presented in separated files, consecutively numbered,
providing scale indications. Figure captions should be
presented separately at the end of the text, with
explanation of keys and/ abbreviations employed. Each table
should have clear, concise, descriptive head, consecutively
numbered according the order of presentation in the text.
Tables should also be presented separately from the text. Do
not use lines outside and within tables. Both figures and
tables should have a 2 X 3 proportion; do not use landscape
format.
SCIENTIFIC NOTES Text should be no longer than four
double-spaced pages, including all artwork. Text structure
should be follows: TITLE in the original language and in
English (if it is in English include a title in Spanish),
followed by an ABSTRACT. The text should include MATERIALS
AND METHODS, RESULTS, and DISCUSSION but without subtitles.
Literature should be cited as in scientific paper
instructions. Acknowledgments should be included at the end
of the text, followed by the author’s name(s), institutional
address(es) and always the e-mail(s).
DELIVERY. Text, figures, and tables, for scientific
papers and notes, should be sent in separate files, in WORD
and PDF formats, without virus. Photographs, maps, graphics,
and figure schematics should be in high-resolution (300 dpi
minimum) JPG or TIFF format. Do not send tables as JPG or
TIFF, but rather as WORD files. Manuscripts that do not meet
journal norms will be returned.
